Turn your video captions into posts, chapters and articles

Updated:

A caption file is more than captions. It is a complete, timestamped transcript of what you said, and that is the raw material for a lot of other content. Here is how to get more out of every video you caption with CueSprint.

Get a clean transcript

Download the SRT from CueSprint after fixing names and terms in the editor. Set Words per group to 5: longer lines make the file easier to read as text. Open it in any text editor; the lines of text are your transcript, and the timestamps tell you exactly when each idea starts.

YouTube description and chapters

Skim the SRT for the moments where the topic changes and note their start times. YouTube turns a list of timestamps in the description into chapters when it starts at 0:00, has at least three entries and each chapter lasts at least 10 seconds:

0:00 Intro
0:42 Why captions matter
1:35 Uploading the SRT
2:20 Common mistakes

Chapters help viewers jump to what they need and give the video more context. Use the first lines of the transcript to write the opening sentence of the description: it is usually the clearest summary of the video.

Blog posts and show notes

A three-minute video is roughly 400–500 spoken words: the skeleton of a short article. Turn the transcript into a post by:

  1. Removing filler words and repetitions.
  2. Splitting it into sections at the topic changes you found for the chapters.
  3. Adding a heading per section, links and an image or two.
  4. Embedding the video at the top.

For podcasts and interviews, the same transcript becomes show notes: a summary, the key quotes with their timestamps and links to everything mentioned.

Social posts and quotes

Look for the one or two sentences in the transcript that work on their own. They make good text posts, quote images, the caption of the post itself or the hook written on the first frame. Because the SRT has timestamps, you can also find the exact moment to cut a shorter clip; to cut clips from a long video quickly, ClipSprint is built for that.

Translations

To reach viewers in other languages, translate the text lines of the SRT and keep every number and timestamp line exactly as it is. You can do it yourself or with a translation tool, then upload the result as a new language on YouTube or as an extra track on your website. Starting from an accurate transcript is what makes the translation good.

Keep your words accurate

Automatic transcription is very good but not perfect. Whatever you reuse, read it first: names, numbers and technical terms are where mistakes hide. Fixing them once in CueSprint's editor fixes them in the MP4, the SRT and the VTT at the same time.
